Amahl' performs in Tuxedo on Sunday
Tuxedo The Opera Company of the Highlands will present a fully costumed version of Gian Carlo Minotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, at St. Mary’s-in-Tuxedo. The production is complete with professional singers, a fourteen piece orchestra, scenery and lighting. The Christmas opera has been entertaining family audiences for the last fifty years. The story is about a poor, disabled boy who is known for telling “tall” tales. When the boy sees an amazing star in the sky, no one believes him. When a knock on the door reveals three magnificent kings seeking shelter, the mother, child, and neighbors welcome them in. Eventually the boy accompanies the kings on their journey to Bethlehem to greet the Christ child. The performance will be followed by a reception in Bentley Hall where attendees may meet St. Mary’s new rector, the Rev. Elizabeth S. McWhorter. Tickets are available at St. Mary’s Office, Tuxedo Park School, Preferred Properties, Tuxedo Park Estates and Tuxedo Wines and Liquors. Benefactors $50; Adults $20; Students $10; and children under 12 free. For additional information, contact Brenda Stewart at 351-5408.
