Goshen — The residents of Glen Arden were treated to a pre-holiday special program on Wednesday, Nov. 23, by members of the Allegro Baroque Ensemble and Cadenza Strings. The Allegro group, directed by Victor Prizgintas, performed selections from their upcoming holiday concert, which included Hanukkah and Christmas favorites. The featured selection for the evening was the Bach “Concerto of Violin No. 2 in E Major” with Sarah Tusch as soloist. Tusch has appeared previously as a soloist with the Allegro Orchestra and the Hudson Philharmonic. “I didn’t expect all three movements of the Bach violin concerto,” exclaimed one resident of Glen Arden, who was impressed both with the artistry and professionalism of the young student ensemble. Promising to return and bring additional students performing other selections from Allegro’s Holiday Concert, to be performed on Thursday, Dec. 22, at Monroe-Woodbury High School, Prizgintas asked everyone in the audience to bring additional friends and residents for the next performance on Friday, Dec. 9, when Allegro Concert Orchestra members will be performing. Warned by the residents that there would not be enough room, Prizgintas stated he would just have to schedule two performances for the evening. Besides practicing for their Holiday Concert and offering holiday performances such as this, the orchestra is already beginning work on a concert of Mozart’s “Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola,” which will feature two soloists from The New York Philharmonic, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 22.
