Allegro Orchestra hosts Veteran's Day concert Sunday

Central Valley - Allegro Orchestra will host a Veteran’s Day Concert dedicating the first half of the program to patriotic selections this Sunday, at 3 p.m. at Central Valley Elementary. Guest artist Carmen Nardone will sing a special arrangement of America for String Orchestra and Voice and John Huberth will deliver the Gettysburg Address accompanied by Ashokan Farewell. “Having an orchestra perform such wonderful selections with these extraordinary artists makes a powerful presentation,” says Viktoras Prizgintas who conducts the Allegro Orchestra. “Early on, I have always wanted to create an orchestra that would bring together young talented musicians with well-establish artists, artists who can demonstrate excellence as well as the pure pleasure of performing for an audience.” In fact, Allegro has to its credits performances with numerous Broadway artists, rock bands Pan.a.ce.a and Safe as Houses, traditional music with the Linane School of Irish Music, and Orange County’s Classic Choral Society (many of these can be viewed on the popular YouTube internet site). “I like to think our students perform a wide variety of music well because we have established a discipline based upon standard basic techniques,” Prizgintas said. The second half of the program features Krista Feeney. Feeney is an exceptional artist who spends most of her time performing in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and recording sessions (she has worked with Paul McCartney on various projects and was featured on his CD Working Classical). Her performance with Allegro marks her second appearance with the orchestra. Sunday’s concert begins at 3 p.m. at Central Valley Elementary. All veterans are welcome with a free admission. General admission is $10; Students and senior citizens are $5. You may call 827-6498 for additional information or e-mail storch11@optonline.net.
