Warwick Winery Café to host return of Dick Wells and Philip Jones Jazz Quintet WARWICK - It looks as though Dick Wells and the Philip Jones Jazz Quintet will become a regular feature at the Pané Bakery Café. The cozy restaurant and stage is located on the picturesque grounds of the Warwick Winery, 114 Little York Road. And Wells and the Philip Jones Jazz Quintet, which recently performed there as a quartet, plan to wow the audience again on Thursday evening, Jan. 25. Pané Bakery Café co-owner/chef Michael Dimartino, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, who also owns Warwick’s Landmark Inn, has been looking forward to the return engagement. The Pané Bakery Café is co-owned by Katherine Grizzanti, a graduate of the Culinary Institute’s pastry/baking program. “Although we’re currently booked up evenings for private affairs, the Cafe will be open to the public for dinner every Friday and Saturday beginning March 9,” said Dimartino. “But we will still host special events and in addition to this month’s show, we’ve invited Dick Wells and the Philip Jones Jazz Quintet to come back again on April 26.” Philip Jones, a well-known recording artist, tenor and bass trombonist, is a 17-year veteran of the Grammy-winning “Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass” orchestra. As a performer, Jones has worked with many of the most talented entertainers in show business, including Bing Crosby, Elves Presley, Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Willie Nelson as well as dozens of groups and orchestras. And as a studio musician, he also has recorded on hundreds of top label releases. Wells is best known locally for his morning news and Saturday music radio shows on WTBQ (1110 AM) and for his appearances on cable television and at community events. But his true claim to fame is as a professional singer and entertainer. Wells once sang with the world-famous Harry James orchestra and even appeared on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show. He also has performed on Las Vegas stages with legendary entertainers like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. Wells has been working with Jones for about seven years. The award-winning trombonist appears on his CD, “Here’s to the Band.” Pané is the Italian word for bread and the Pané Bakery Café specializes in fresh baked breads, pizzas, pastas and grilled specialties. “Everything we do is based on the use of fresh baked breads,” said Dimartino. On Jan. 25, the Café will be open for full course dinner selections beginning at 7 p.m. The performance starts at 8:30 p.m. and there is a $12 cover charge. Although the performance usually sells out early, a limited number of tickets may still be available. For reservations or additional information, call 986-5444.
