MONROE — To honor those who died in the attacks on New York City and Washington, DC on Sept. 11, 2001, all fines collected at the Monroe Free Library on Sept. 11 of this year will be donated to charity. “This fundraising has been taken to heart by our patrons in Monroe and in other communities,” says Carol Bezkorowajny, the head of circulation. “Patrons from other libraries in Orange County make a special trip to pay their fines at the Monroe Free Library every Sept. 11 so that their money can go to a worthy cause. Some choose to give a little extra.” All money collected in fines by the Monroe Free Library on Sept. 11 will go to a Firefighters Memorial Scholarship Fund for the surviving children of county residents who perished while fighting to save others on that day. The library is located at 44 Millpond Parkway, Monroe. For information, call 783-4411.
