Warwick — The Albert Wisner Public Library will host the first public reading of a new play “Burying Mother” by local playwright Donna Spector at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The play is a work-in-progress that uses dreams and memories to explore difficult and often bizarre comic family relationships, especially between a mother and her daughters, and between two sisters. Since plays are written to be spoken and performed, this play will be read aloud by those in attendance who wish to participate. Spector will attend the reading and be on hand for a discussion of her play afterward. Spector’s plays have appeared Off Broadway, Off Off Broadway, regionally and in Canada, Ireland, and Greece. Her play “Golden Ladder,” named Women Playwrights Best Play of 2002 by Smith & Kraus, was produced Off Broadway in 2002 at the Players Theatre, along with her first play, “Another Paradise,” in 1986. A member of Dramatist Guild, Poets & Writers, Manhattan Oracles, and the International Centre for Women Playwrights, Spector received two National Endowment for the Humanities grants to study in Greece, and production grants from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the New York Council for the Arts. Her poems, stories, scenes and monologues have appeared in numerous literary magazines and anthologies. Registration is required, as space is limited. To register, call 986-1047 or visit the library’s adult reference desk at 2 Colonial Ave. in Warwick.
