Sugar Loaf — The United States Air Force Band of Liberty will perform at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf. The band is dedicated to using the power of music to inspire Air Force members and the nation, producing musical programs around the globe. Stationed at Hanscom AFB near Boston, this group of professional Airmen-musicians has been entertaining audiences throughout New England and beyond since 1978. From the swinging sounds of Glenn Miller to contemporary big band, the band plays to preserve the heritage of America’s true art form —jazz. They have shared the stage with John Pizzarelli, Gary Smulyan, Byron Stripling, Greg Hopkins, Jiggs Whigam, and Billy Pierce. Paying homage to the great big bands of Basie, Ellington, Kenton and Goodman, the band also spotlights the works of modern composers like Maria Schneider, Mike Crotty, Sandy Megas and Brett Zvzcek. Kings Theatre Company is a not-for-profit organization currently presenting and producing many of the shows held at the Lycian Centre. Tickets are free but reservations are required, and may be made by calling 469-2287. For more information visit www.LycianCentre.com.
