Air Pirates to perform at UFO fest

— A unique mash-up of old-time radio and off beat humor, the Air Pirates have been called "A Prairie Home Companion with a kick."

Now, the pirates will present War of the Worlds; Pirate Style, on Saturday, April 27, at Village Center, 65 Main St., Pine Bush. The performance will be broadcast live on radio and over the Internet.

The Air Pirates have rewritten the original tale of invasion by Martians to meet the needs of any Air Pirate production. This means the audience gets to face the alien invasion head on by supplying all of the sound effects for the classic SciFi adventure.

The Hudson Valley's finest homegrown ensemble begins with four actors portraying all the characters in original radio scripts and audiences making all the sound effects, crowd noise and any other noise needed. Prior to the performance the audience is auditioned and given all the necessary props and a review of what they are to do. The Cue Card Girl lets the audience know when it's time to slam a door, make the footsteps and even shoot the guns (props, thank you) during the shows. The audience also supplies sound effects for the commercials in the broadcast.

The Air Pirates Radio Theater cast includes MaryLee Shorr, Brian Nieves, Alan Andrews, Kate Brannan, and Lindsey Graham and of course the audience.

It's time for the Air Pirates to invade the town that is known for alien invasion. Be part of the action and help the Air Pirates Radio Theater bring this event to the masses via this live radio broadcast.

The Air Pirate's flagship station is Warwick's own WTBQ at 93.5FM, which broadcasts the performances live. Listeners may also go to the Web site, www.airpirateradio.com, to listen live or download the episodes.

"We are heard in exotic places like England, Turkey and Texas," said Paul Ellis, producer/director.

If you re looking for something different and are not afraid to be part of the action, The Air Pirates are ready for you to join the show.

The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15. For more information or for tickets, call 845-469-7563 or visit online at www.airpirateradio.com/tickets.
