Air Pirates Radio Theater to perform A Christmas Carol' for holiday broadcast
Warwick WTBQ Radio and PEP productions will present live performances of the Air Pirates Radio Theater’s staged reading of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Three live performances are planned: Dec. 15, at the Tuscan Café, in Warwick, at 8 p.m.; Dec. 16 at It’s All Good Restaurant, in Newburgh, at 8 p.m.; and Dec. 17, at Manhattans in Monroe, at 4 p.m. All performances will be recorded live for broadcast on WTBQ Radio 1110 AM on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Air Pirates Radio Theater is a unique partnership between live contemporary interactive theater and old time radio drama. The project begins with a well trained acting ensemble, performing radio scripts in front of a live audience. The Pirates begin with old radio scripts that are updated adding new language and sound effects. Audiences will participate in the productions by supplying all the sound effects, crowd noise and any additional requirements of the production made available to them. The live performances will be recorded for future broadcasts on WTBQ 1110 A.M. The Air Pirates produce the live staged reading as if it were a live radio broadcast (with some surprise modifications). Paul Ellis, producer, says he plans some interesting changes to this version of the old-time favorite. Ellis says, “A Christmas Carol is one of the world’s most well know and favorite stories for the holiday season. What better way to celebrate than spending an evening being part of a production of that involves the audience and the actors together?” This production of A Christmas Carol will be broadcast on WTBQ Radio on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
