A Streetcar Named Desire' now playing at Tri-State Actors Theater
Sussex Tennessee William’s play, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” is now playing at the Tri-State Actors Theater in Sussex through Oct. 8. A winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Streetcar, Williams became one of America’s greatest writers in his lifetime. Written by Williams while he lived in New Orleans, the play exudes the atmosphere of this eccentric and mysterious city immediately following WWII. It tells the story of the fiery confrontation between Blanche Dubois and Stanley Kowalski, two diametrically opposed human forces, whose worlds- both inner and outer- meet in a moral battle that must end in tragedy. In Blanche we see the fantasies of a way of life in the “old South,” being driven to earth by Stanley, who is a new and brutal force unleashed after WWII. Stanley sees no value in the things Blanche treasures, and Blanche sees Stanley as her “executioner.” Tri-State’s “Streetcar” stars Kristin Andersson as the doomed Blanche DuBois. Vincent Lamberti, last seen at Tri-State as the dangerous Dracula, is the powerful and brutish Stanley. Katie Tame, last seen in several roles in “A Christmas Carol,” plays Stella Kowalski, wife of Stanley and sister of Blanche, caught between the two. Bill Ryder is the clumsy but good-hearted Mitch.
