A quartet that deserves attention' plays in Central Valley on Sunday, Dec. 3

Central Valley -Music in Central Valley presents The Parker String Quarter playing works by Mozart, Schumann and Ligeti Sunday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. The Washington Post describes The Parker as ”a quartet that deserves strong attention.” The Parker already has a distinctive personality, projecting a sound that is big and subtle and playing that shows grace, flexibility, and musical understanding. The quartet was founded in May 2002 by four students at Boston’s New England Conservatory: violinists Daniel Chong and Karen Kim, violist Jessica Bodner and cellist Kee-Hyun Kim. They have been awarded top honors at both the Concert Artists Guild International and Bordeuax String Quartet Competitions in 2005. Since then The Parker has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Phillips Collection and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Ravinia Festival’s Rising Stars Series in Chicago, and Patrons for Young Artists and the Schneider Concerts Chamber Music Series in New York. The program takes place at Central Valley United Methodist Church, 12 Smith Clove Road, and is open to the public free of charge with a suggested donation at the door. The church is handicapped accessible. For further information contact the church office at 928-6570.
