Kairos: A Consort of Singers will present J. S. Bach’s Easter Cantata No. 4, “Christ lag in Todesbanden” (Christ lay in death’s bonds) on Easter Sunday at 4 p.m. at Holy Cross Monastery, Route 9W in West Park, under the direction of Dr. Edward Lundergan. The concert will also feature Bach’s choral work, Sanctus in D Major, BWV 238, and a movement from the Easter portion of Messiah by George Frideric Handel. The cantata and other choral works are accompanied by chamber orchestra and will be performed as part of a choral evensong service. The performance is part of an ongoing Bach Cantata series presented by Kairos at Holy Cross Monastery and is the second in the 2008 Bach Cantata Series. There is no admission charge; freewill donations to support the Bach Cantata Series will be accepted. Kairos: A Consort of Singers is a select vocal ensemble of 16 voices located in West Park, dedicated to the performance of unaccompanied choral literature from the Medieval to the present.
