A concert ‘Completely Diverse'

    MIDDLETOWN —The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band’s initial Spring Concert, set for 8 p.m., Saturday, March 22 at Middletown’s Paramount Theater, will feature ensemble performances from groups within the band along with the premiere of assistant professor Dana Perna’s original piece, “Nonet: In Memoriam Charles T. Griffes.” The show, under the theme “And Now … Something Completely Divers(e),” will showcase ensemble performances of music from Aaron Copland, George Gershwin and Piotr Tchaikovsky. In addition, the complete band, directed by Kevin Scott, will play Norman Dello Joio’s “Scenes from the Louvre” and the finale to Dvorak’s celebrated “‘New World’ Symphony.” Perna’s compilation is for saxophone quartet and brass quintet.
