'A Classic Irish Christmas' at the Paramount

Middletown — Andy Cooney will perform "A Classic Irish Christmas" at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at the Paramount Theater, 17 South St., Middletown. The performance will raise money the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Parade, which for years has been held in the Village of Goshen. For the first time, the village is charging the parade committee $5,000 to defray the expenses it incurs for the parade. Cooney's charisma and charm have made him a favorite among American and Irish audiences. The New York Times named him "Irish America’s Favorite Son." George Casey, Ireland’s new King of Blarney, will add comic relief. He has toured with many legendary performers, including Rosemary Clooney and Bobby Vinton. Emma Kate Tobia, Ireland's premier soprano, is classically trained and melds her pure lyrical voice with the timeless melodies of her Irish heritage. She is a multiple award-winning artist who has a grá, or love for Irish song. The energetic, renowned Darrah Carr Dancers will present intricate step dance footwork to traditional Irish music, their feet barely touching the floor. Music will be presented by director Brian Moran and members of Cooney's regular band, including Matthew Fisher on flute and whistles, percussionist Jimmy Kelly, and guitarist Colm Graham.
