A cappella jamboree to feature SUNY New Paltz and WVHS choral ensembles

WARWICK — SUNY New Paltz’s renowned Absolut A Cappella and The Cat’s Meow, an all-girl a cappella group from Warwick Valley High School will share the stage at Spring Tones, a cappella jamboree, scheduled for Sunday, April 29, at the Warwick Reformed Church.

Proceeds will benefit Jubilate, the Hudson Valley’s premier community youth choir.

Absolut A Cappella is SUNY New Paltz’ premiere co-ed a cappella group. The group appeared at last year’s Spring Tones jamboree, where they rocked the house, according to the press release announcing the show.

Meanwhile, The Cat’s Meow was featured on MSG’s Varsity Talent Show, an American Idol-type competition involving 32 soloists and ensembles. They also travel to Orlando, Fla., this month to participate in Festival Disney, a music and singing competition.

Members include founders Allison Dethmers and Francesca Huey; Charlotte Caskey, Anna Galitzine, Kristen Geary, Brooke Hamling, Naomi Hanson, Ava Heatley, Lindsay Kraft, Kayla Jardine, Ally Rosen and Carolyn Weller. Several Cat’s Meow members are also in the Jubilate Concert Choir.

Jubilate (pronounced yoo-bih-LAH-tey) is the grade 4-12, co-ed choir based in Warwick with different and overlapping choirs of members who hail from several area school districts. Directed by David Crone and Steven Wing, the choir performed at Lincoln Center earlier this year. Jubilate has also performed at Carnegie Hall, with the Classic Choral Society and at numerous local events.

Essential information The concert starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, at the Warwick Reformed Church, 16 Maple Ave.

Tickets ($15 for adults, $5 for students) are available by calling 845-986-9964 through April 27, or at the door ($20 for adults, $10 for students).
