4-H starts K'nex club in area
Central Valley The 4-H Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension is starting a K’nex club in the Monroe/Woodbury area, open to all youth in grades 2-12 in Orange County. The first official meeting will be Wednesday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. At that time there will be an election of officers. K’nex is the popular construction toy that is also regarded for its value as an educational and creative activity for youth. Children will be applying knowledge of mathematics, science and technology, as they build from a variety of K’nex construction kits. The popularity of K’nex 4-H Clubs has been growing across the country; this will be the first K’nex Club in Orange County. The club members build all sorts of K’nex projects. A major project, designed and created by the group, will be displayed at the 2008 Orange County Fair. In addition to the K’nex activities, club members will also be involved in community projects, parades, field trips, and structural competitions. The K’nex 4-H Club will meet twice a month on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Valley Elementary School on Route 32. To make this a successful venture, adult volunteers are needed. Adults with an engineering background, or who enjoyed creative building kits, such as Lego, will find K’nex to be another exciting construction toy. Call 469-9673 or 344-1234 for more information about the club, and volunteering as a leader.
