4-H holds registration March 6

Goshen As freezing temperatures and short days find children spending more time indoors, with seemingly nothing to occupy their time, parents grapple for a solution. 4-H, the youth development program of Cornell Cooperative Extension, thinks they have a family friendly way to beat the winter blues. Youth can learn about the activities and projects offered at 4-H Clubs Registration Night at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 6, at the Scotchtown Elementary School in Goshen. Today’s 4-H is not just cooking, sewing and livestock, but rocketry, electronics, woodworking, photography, public speaking and community service as well, to name just a few. Youth can learn skills and develop assets to help them make a successful transition into adulthood. Research has shown that youth involved in 4-H are more motivated to help others, do better in school, and make lasting friendships. Membership offers involvement for the entire family. Cloverbuds are for children five to seven years, neighborhood 4-H Clubs are for children eight to 19, and Teen Programs for those 13 to 19 years old. Parents or guardians can volunteer to be a club leader or work on a project of their choice with the club. The annual 4-H membership fee is $7 per member, with a $14 maximum per family.
