Needs versus wants

A recent article in The Warwick Advertiser mentioned that the Warwick Valley School Educational Facilities Committee was recommending several major and costly projects to school properties.

Some of these proposals dealt with new flooring, boilers, windows and roofing, all important projects that most taxpayers would readily approve as necessary.

Carefully hidden in these proposals is a very costly (millions) want to install an unneeded turf football field and eight-lane running track.

Anyone can plainly see that we already have a beautiful grass football field, plus a recently resurfaced six-lane running track.

The reasons for the new turf field was that Goshen and Monroe-Woodbury have turf fields.... Sounds like more of a want than a need.

Beside the numerous problems with turf fields, why doesn't the Warwick School Administration and School Board for once give the overtaxed citizens of Warwick a break.

These proposals should be individual choices for Warwick voters on the ballot.

If the true needs of the school district are not separated from the wants of a select few, I urge all Warwick taxpayers to vote no.
