Wrestler Thomas Wightman is Warwick's 'Student-Athlete of the Week'

— Thomas Wightman has been selected as Warwick Valley High School's "Student-Athlete of the Week" through the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

The senior wrestling standout improved his record to 26-1 and earned his 135 career victory Friday night against Minisink Valley.

Thomas is a two-year captain and two-time Section 9 Champion.

He also finished fourth at the challenging Eastern States Championships last month.

Thomas has set his sights on a top finish at the state tournament in late February.

Thomas carries a 93 average and takes a challenging course load including AP United States History, AP Government and Spanish 4 Honors through University of Albany.

He has applied to Binghamton, Buffalo, Drexel and Stevens Institute of Technology where he plans to study engineering.

Thomas is the son of John and Mary Ann Wightman of Warwick. His brother Mitch was Warwick Valley's first NYSPHSAA State Wrestling Champion; his other brother Lucas is a tenth-grader who also had a big win versus Minisink Valley during the dual meet).
