Because of COVID-19 restrictions this year’s traditional Arbor Day ceremonies in April could not take place.

However, on Friday, Nov. 6, an unseasonably mild and sunny day, local officials and members of the community did celebrate Warwick’s devotion to trees when the Warwick Valley Gardeners along with the Town of Warwick Tree Commission planted a Kousa Dogwood tree at the Kings Estates’ Mariam Court Playground. Three more trees at Kings Estates are also scheduled.

“This is the best weather for our annual observance that we’ve ever had,” said Patricia Reinhardt, chair of the Arbor Day Committee and member of the Warwick Valley Gardeners,

Reinhardt thanked Warwick Rotarians for their donation and then introduced the guests including Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Karen Emmerich and Carl Lloyd of the Town of Warwick Shade Tree Commission, Town of Warwick Historian Dr. Richard Hull, Lily McLean, Bill Roe, Deputy Commissioner and his staff of Town of Warwick DPW and Jan Jansen of Jansen Nursery.

The ceremony concluded with the traditional Arbor Day singing of “America, the Beautiful.”
