WARWICK — The Warwick Friendly Visitor Program hosted a Volunteer Appreciation/Recognition Holiday Party at the Senior Center at Town Hall on Dec. 11.
Board of Advisors Chairperson Vince Copello served as emcee and Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton presented Certificates of Appreciation to volunteers in attendance.
The program boasts of more than 40 trained volunteers, though not all were able to attend.
The FVP is a coordinated effort among the Orange County Office of Aging and Jewish Family Service; staff from both organizations were present for the celebration, along with several of the program's advisory board members.
Attendees were treated to musical holiday performances by students from the Florida School District. After their performances, students were able join in the luncheon provided primarily by ShopRite's generosity and advisory board member donations.
Since July,between 40 to 66 neighbors have received services each month. Services include help with food shopping, rides to doctor appointments and other errands, a friendly visit, or help with paperwork.
This pilot year of the program has seen remarkable growth and is clearly filling a void in a town that is home to 8,000 senior citizens, or 25 percent of the total population.
The Warwick Rotary is responsible for financial support during the program's first year.
Next training session: Jan. 15 The next volunteer training session will be held Monday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at Albert Wisner Public Library.

A sentiment cited by one volunteer is that such a small effort on her part means so much to a neighbor - that in itself is the best appreciation and recognition.
