The Village of Warwick was among 105 communities in the Mid-Hudson to recently be awarded a Regional Economic Development Council grant to purchase land to protect its water supply.

A total of $65.8 million was awarded for those 105 projects.

Jen Metzger said in the press release first detailing the award, "whether they are for protecting our vital water resources, making our down towns more pedestrian-friendly or expanding job opportunities by supporting expansion of existing businesses."

Village of Warwick received $288,150 for land acquisition for source water protection.

Mayor Michael Newhard said the grant is primarily for the purchase of 57.6 acres of land within or adjacent to the village's watershed and includes legal costs, surveying and signage. There is a 25 percent anticipated match of funds.
