What do Family Central, Backpack Snack Attack, Indivisible Hudson Valley, the Orange County Land Trust and the Warwick Valley Humane Society all have in common?

They are all local non-profit organizations that have recently received $200 donations, courtesy of Sustainable Warwick. These five non-profits were selected by Warwick families who participated in the HeatSmart Warwick Campaign and had heat pumps installed in their homes.

How does this work?

In 2013, a generous and anonymous donor provided funds to Sustainable Warwick with the stipulation that it be used to provide incentives to Warwick residents to make their homes more environmentally friendly.

Thus, when Warwick families take advantage of the Home Performance with Energy Star Program to have their homes sealed and insulated, or when they install heat pumps through HeatSmart Warwick, they can support a local non-profit while improving the comfort and energy savings of their home.

“Both the Home Performance upgrade and the heat pumps are investments that pay for themselves over time,” said Michael Helme of Sustainable Warwick. “When anyone participates in these programs, we feel it’s a win for the environment, a win for the homeowner, and a win for a local business. And with the donations given out on top, it’s a win for so many others throughout the community - even the cats and dogs!”
