Members of the Pine Island Fire Department paid their last respects on Sunday afternoon, Nov 29, to firefighter Jimmy Black, who passed away on Nov. 24 at the age of 50. His obituary, which appears on Page XX, included this passage: “Jimmy was an active member of the Pine Island Volunteer Fire Department, Pulaski Company, for 16 years. He was devoted to his duty and to his brothers in the company. His faithful service embodied his commitment to helping others in his community.” At the wake, held at the Pine Island Firehouse, an American flag was hung over the entrance to the firehouse as firefighters lined up to salute the passing hearse escorted by Pine Island Fire Department personnel.
