One-car crash in Goshen kills county employee

Thomas Walter of Warwick, an Orange County public health technician, died at approximately 9 a.m. on Feb. 5 in a single-car crash at SR 17A near Durland Road in the Town of Goshen.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responding to the accident observed a single motor vehicle, occupied only by the driver, that had collided with a tree. Walter was operating a county vehicle at the time of the collision.

He was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, where he was pronounced dead.

The New York State Police were requested to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. No immediate cause was available for the crash.

Walter, 28, had worked for the county since 2017.

“We are all deeply saddened by Tom’s passing and my thoughts and prayers are with his family,” said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. “Today’s tragic accident shocked our community. Tom was a valued county employee and we mourn his passing.”
