Each harvest season local farmers donate a pumpkin per student at Golden Hill Elementary in Florida (grades pre-K through 5), to encourage them to get a bit creative this fall. This year, pumpkins came from S&So Produce and Dagele Brothers Produce.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Farmers Market sponsor a pumpkin decorating contest with these donations each year. Any student at Golden Hill is invited to decorate their pumpkin and deliver it to the farmers market...held Tuesdays on 17A.

The pumpkins are displayed and then voted on for prizes. The vendors of the market act as the judges, and cast their votes for the winners. The prizes are given in the following categories: pre-K through kindergarten, first grade through third, and fourth grade through fifth. For each category, the first place winners are awarded $30, second place wins $20, and third place wins $10.
