Veterans Day services began Thursday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance led by Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Attending the ceremony were Orange County Legislator Paul Ruszkiewicz, Mayor Daniel Harter and Airman Liam Califf, a 2020 S.S. Seward graduate presently stationed at Fort McGuire in New Jersey.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Florida American Legion Unit 1250 annually sponsors an art contest for fourth and fifth graders at Golden Hill Elementary with the assistance and cooperation of Principal Deborah Lisack and art teacher Nicholas Camia. This year’s winners were Stas Olejniczak (fourth grade) and Anna Andrade (fifth). They are presented with backpacks that filled with both educational and fun items.

Cards of thanks and appreciation were made by both the Girl Scouts and Girls on the Run and given to all the veterans.

The ceremony closed with the singing of the National Anthem by Allyson Frank.
