Margaret T. von Pentz of Goshen entered into rest on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Taconic Nursing & Rehab in Beacon. She was 98.

Margaret was born April 30, 1925, in Hillburn, the daughter of Lyle Gage and Margaret Terhune Gage. She held a master’s degree in microbiology and retired from Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River as a microbiologist.

She is survived by her son Grover von Pentz and wife Barbara of Goshen; grandchildren Theresa M. von Pentz of Goshen, Andrea M.Delgado and Matt of Goshen, Heather C. Johnson and Curtis of Chester and G. Charles von Pentz of Goshen; and great grandchildren Evan Johnson, Madison and Bailey Delgado. She was predeceased by her husband Grover C. von Pentz Jr.

While working at Lederle, Margaret worked with Dr. Salk to make the Polio vaccine safe for us to take.

She was in charge of an entire building with Laboratories, uncommon for a woman in the 50’s.

Margaret’s second career and passion was Scouts. For more than 50 years she volunteered in many aspects of the program - Den Mother, Den Leader Coach, Round table Chair, Pack and Troop Committees. She was awarded the Silver Beaver and holds two Wood Badge training achievements, which are just some of the Scouting accolades.

Most summers she along with her husband and son spent all of August camping in the U.S and Canada. They where also members of a local camping club called The Trotters.

She took many trips with the Goshen Seniors, lots of cruises and attended many of her husband military reunions.

Margaret also skied. She and her husband were members of The Ramapo Mt. Ski Club.

In lieu of flower, contributions can be made to Greater Hudson Valley Boy Scout Council or The Morgan Horse Farm, Weybridge Vt.

Visitation and funeral services were held July 15 at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen.

Interment followed at Sloatsburg Cemetery.
