John M. O’Brien passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at his residence in Monroe. He was 41 years old and a lifetime resident of Monroe.

He was the son of Robert and Mary Dambrot O’Brien. John was born on March 3, 1979, in Goshen.

“Johnny O” was an Overnight Stock Clerk for BJ’s and worked for Cumberland Farms serving our community in Monroe. Johnny was also a member of Sacred Heart Church.

John was a jack of all trades. He was a very talented artist, he loved to cook for others, and he loved listening to music and dancing. He spent his spare time with his family and friends.

People can describe John as the happiest and saddest person in the world. John was getting tired and he could not fight any longer. Even on his brighter days his battles kept taking over. God did not want to watch him suffer any longer, so they welcomed him home to be with his parents. We all know John is up in heaven talking Jesus’s ear off doing a tour of his forever home in heaven.

Survivors include his sister PatriciAnne E. O’Brien and her fiancé Michael Petrosky, his brothers Edward J. McLaughlin and Brian M. McLaughlin and his wife Ingrid, his nieces and nephews: Alexis and her husband Tony, Brian and his wife Mikaela, Kayla and her fiancé Kyle, Victoria, E.J., Faith and Matthew; and by his great niece and nephew Baby Susie and Jayson. In addition to his parents, John was also predeceased by his sister-in-law Susan McLaughlin and his sister Marybeth McLaughlin.

Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Visitation was held Feb. 15 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.
