James ‘Jimmy’ McGovern

James “Jimmy” McGovern of White Plains (formerly of Warwick) passed away after a brief illness on Friday, March 12, 2021. He was 47 years old.

Born in the Bronx on May 19, 1973, he was the son of James R. and Mary Ellen (Cossu) McGovern.

James was a graduate of Burke Catholic High School and Empire State College. He worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 3 in New York City and contributed to the rebuilding of Ground Zero after 9/11.

Jimmy was an avid fisherman. He also was a true New Yorker and loved the Giants and the Yankees.

His family’s statement reads: “Jimmy was simply the best. His kindness and compassion will outlive all of us.”

James is survived by his parents James R. and Mary Ellen McGovern of Warwick; brother Matthew McGovern of Queens; sister Meaghan McGovern-Kennedy and her husband Robert Kennedy of Warwick; and nephews Bo and Finn Kennedy. He was also loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins, and many, many friends.

Visitation was held March 16 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 17 at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick.

Interment followed in Warwick Cemetery.
