Andrew Burton Jr. of Goshen passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 83 years old.

Andrew was the youngest offspring of Andrew Burton Sr. and Charlotte Gant Burton.

Andrew Burton Jr. was born on June 8, 1936, and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. As a young man, he met and married Dolores Mitchell to which their three children Donella Jones, Andrew Burton III and Magdalene Burton, all of Columbia, S.C., were born.

Sometime thereafter, Andrew Jr. or (June) as he was affectionately called by the family, relocated to New York which later became his adopted home. He became an automobile aficionado which means he never saw a vehicle he didn't like.

Andrew served as a Deacon. With his strong bond with the Lord, he spent countless hours at church and church-related functions. He was always willing to go above and beyond his duties as one of the Deacons. When he was called upon he responded willingly to any need for assistance at any time. Being in the presence of the Lord, his home, church, and family, he enjoyed speaking of and praising God. It gave him great pleasure to serve.

Andrew retired from the New York City/State Board of Education where he had earned the title of Fireman for the same institution. He was a man of pride and it showed once he obtained his Certificate of Merit and Cosmetology License from The Wilfred Beauty Academy.

Settling down was not his intent until he met the apple of his eye. Later in life, when the stars aligned, he met and married Joan Calhoun. Through this union came three children: Richard, Veronica, and Kendall.

Andrew leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Joan; his children: Donella Jones, Andrew Burton III, Magdalene Burton, Richard Smith, Veronica Williams and Kendall Burton; grandchildren: Kendel McDaniel, Tiajuana Green, Reno Burton and Kalira Khrystal Bell; great-grandchildren: Darius Gogains and Jacquan Saddler; a host of nieces and nephews; sisters in-law Bertha Marie Haynes Burton and Velma Lewis; cousins; and friends.

Andrew's siblings who preceded him in death are Willie Burton, James Burton, Luther Burton and Edward Burton.
