What made you want to be a teacher?

Believe it or not, I wanted to be a teacher ever since kindergarten: Mrs. Meyers (my teacher) made Kindergarten fun...All my (best) teachers made learning fun.

How long have you been a teacher?

I’ve taught for 27 years total, 21 of those in Warwick.

Tell us about the past year – the good and the bad:

The past year has been challenging, (in particular) learning new ways to connect to students through technology...Connecting to kids through a screen was a challenge, because it’s different than what you’re used to. Kids make you smile: I really don’t think there are any bad days.

What motivates you?

When a child reads a book all by themselves...when they get that ‘a-ha’ that they can read, it’s so exciting.

What’s the secret to being a great teacher?

Connecting to students and caring ...just listening to them.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone considering becoming a teacher?

If this is your passion, follow your passion.
