The Warwick Valley High School Drama Club will perform its annual spring musical virtually.

Jason Robert Brown’s “Songs for a New World” will be streamed over the last weekend in April.

Songs for a New World is a musical composed of songs that deal with everyday events, such as love and marriage, loss, fear and our aspirations. Notable songs include “A New World,” “Stars and the Moon” and “The Steam Train,” among others.

Brown’s soul-stirring melodies and lyrics brim with emotion, hope and soul, and provide a look at life through various lenses, each exploring the epiphanies people face every single day.

To prepare for the production, the cast is rehearsing remotely with the directors, and later will be brought into the high school’s television studio.

Here, following strict social gathering guidelines, the musical numbers will be taped individually, and then all performances will be edited together to create one video production.

Directing the production is the club’s advisor, Nick DiLeo, who is excited to present his very first musical in video form.

Joining him once again are Donna Nestor as producer and Noreen Hanson as vocal director.

New to the team this year is Dan Ceccione, one of the high school’s communications teachers, who is spearheading the video production aspect.

The production will be streamed via the online website Showtix4U over the weekend of April 30. Specific details regarding purchasing tickets for the production will be released on the WVCSD website as the production nears.

The community has always been supportive of the Drama Club over the years,” DiLeo said in the press release announcing the spring musical, “and we are asking everyone to purchase tickets this year more than any other year to help support the club after last year’s limited attendance.”
