Warwick. Chosun Taekwondo Academy hosts Zen meditation workshops

The Chosun Taekwondo Academy, headquartered at 60 Galloway Road in Warwick, is hosting a two-part introduction to Zen Meditation on Sunday, July 18, and Sunday, Aug. 8, from 12 to 1:30 p.m.

The workshop is a practical introduction to the practice, history and philosophy of Zen Buddhism, from its origins in India 2,500 years ago, to its living practice in our modern world.

The program will cover the basics of meditation posture, how to handle thoughts during meditation, basic breathing practices and spend some time sitting in Zazen (Zen meditation), as well as sharing some stories from the rich history of Zen, and a discussion of how this ancient practice is deeply relevant to our lives today.

The workshop will be led by Jacob Seiryo Gendelman, leader of Warwick Zen, an affiliate of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center. Gendelman is a student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher, Roshi, Abbot of Yokoji, and has been a formal student of Zen for more than 30 years.

Warwick Zen is a Zen practice group committed to fostering an inclusive, welcoming community, offering the opportunity to explore and experience the practice of Zen meditation.
