Greenwood Lake Public Library welcomes back Chef Nate Gross with The Culinary Corner on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m., to share his knowledge and expertise on the edible art form of fruit and vegetable carving.

The chef was here previously in December 2018 demonstrating cake decorating. In that class, he decorated three cakes, explained working with flowers and frostings while answering very important questions on the process of creating.

Nate Gross is a professional garde manger (pronounced guard marja). A garde manger is a cold food chef who works with a variety of products that are made ahead of time.

He or she is responsible for the creation of platters that are sampled throughout a party. Fruit and vegetable carvings are designed to attract people to buffet tables as well as complement possible themes of an event.

A graduate of Culinary Institute of America, Gross brings more than 40 years of experience to the table with a host of credentials in the culinary field. Past president of The Orange and Rockland Chef’s Association, he has worked as executive chef in catering, health care, Wall Street and other large corporations.

He worked at Singer’s Caterers and was head chef for the Food Bank for New York City.

He has won various awards in culinary competition and has been profiled in the newspaper. He appeared on The History Channel’s showing of “Mega Meals.”

The chef also has volunteered his time to assist the Rockland Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) Culinary Program, serving on their advisory board in West Nyack for almost 30 years.

Registration is limited; Greenwood Lake Residents receive first priority.
