West Point’s free Armed Forces Day concert is May 20

WEST POINT — The West Point Band will present a free concert in honor of Armed Forces Day on Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Eisenhower Hall Theatre, paying tribute to those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces.
The program will include Leonard Bernstein's suite from “On the Waterfront,” mixed with military marches by John Philip Sousa and Karl King.
The band will also perform Donald Grantham's work, “Farewell to Gray.” Commissioned by the West Point Band, “Farewell to Gray” was inspired by that final rite of passage in which the graduating West Point cadets join the ranks of commissioned officers in the Army.
The performance will conclude the concert with “Liberty for All” by James Beckel.
Established in 1817, the West Point Band is the Army's oldest musical organization and continues to provide music to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets and to serve as ambassadors of the U.S. Military Academy and the Army to local, national, and international communities.
