WARWICK — The Warwick Valley High School Drama Club will present the premiere of the ultimate show-business musical, "42nd Street," for three shows on March 10 and 11.
The storyThis musical is a celebration of Broadway, Times Square and the people who make the magic of musical theater. Aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city from Allentown Pennsylvania, and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show.
But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star?
The musicThe score is chock-full of Broadway memorable standards, including “You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me,” “Dames,” “We’re In the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” and “Forty-Second Street.”
The productionThe Drama Club’s advisor, Nick DiLeo, is directing the production, with Noreen Hanson and Chris Persad as musical directors, Beth Maisonet as choreographer and Donna Nestor as producer.
Dates, times and tickets• Performances for 42nd Street are scheduled for Friday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
• Tickets for the show will go on sale Monday, Feb. 13, at 8 a.m.
• Advance reservations can be made by calling the Drama Club’s box office at 987-3050 ext. 22500, and following the directions provided on the recorded message or by completing the online ticket order form found on the Drama Club's page on the WVCSD website (www.warwickvalleyschools.com).
• Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for children ten and under and senior citizens.
Based on the enormous turnout for its past musicals, residents are urged to reserve their tickets in advance.
