SAUGERTIES — Morgan Smith, a junior at Warwick Valley High School has recently won Champion of Modified Children’s Hunter Division at HITS in Saugerties.

HITS (Horse Shows In The Sun) is a national series of equestrian competition with events in California, Florida, Arizona, Virginia and Saugerties, with thousands of domestic as well as international competitors.

Morgan rides and trains under the watchful eye of Vanessa Karlewicz, owner of The Stables at Mira Bella on Jessup Road in Warwick.

Morgan won her Championship as well as four other ribbons during a three-day meet against more than 80 other riders in her class.

Her horse, Luther, is part of and owned by The Stables at Mira Bella.

Morgan, a high honor student at Warwick High School, expects to continue riding through her undergraduate schooling and ultimately become a veterinarian.
