Empty Bowls fund raiser a success

— In the spirit of community, many joined together for a fun family evening, while helping fight hunger in our community.

This year’s "Empty Bowls" fund raiser, sponsored by the recently formed WVHS Empty Bowls Club, was held on March 21 at Warwick Valley High School.

Empty Bowls proceeds are donated to organizations encompassing the entire Town of Warwick that provide food or meals to those in need:

The Backpack Snack Attack program for students in the Town’s public schools

Florida Community Food Pantry
Greenwood Lake Food Pantry,

Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry

The Warwick Community Kitchen in Pine Island.

FeaturedGuests enjoyed a delicious meal of soups, bread, dessert and beverage, as well as student music, kids’ games and activities, silent auction and raffle baskets.

Attendees enjoyed performances by Middle School Guitar Club members, the High School Orchestra members and the Cats Meow vocal group.

The family event also featured kids’ hands-on pottery activities and games, silent auction and raffle baskets.

ContributorsMany attendees chose to purchase a pottery bowl as a reminder of the event and the cause. Many local potters have made and contributed beautiful pottery bowls for local Empty Bowls events, including Dr. Deb Bernstein, Ray Boswell, Andy Boswell, Gloria Dobbs, Judy Duboff, Sharon Galbraith, Roberta Green, Jessica Hengen, Lynn Isaacson, Andrea Kimball, Tina Michalka, Connie Rose, Gianna Rotondo, Laura Smith and Anita Zedayko.

The community service participation of high school students is an important aspect of the fund raiser. Student volunteers helped with planning, music, audio visual setup, bowl sales, kids’ pottery project to take home, kids’ games organized by Warwick Lions Club volunteers and cleanup.

An Empty Bowls Club was recently established at the high school, and students look forward to working with local potters to learn how to make, decorate and glaze bowls for next year’s Empty Bowls event.

Donations and sponsorsShopRite of Warwick provided bread and a discount on soups.

Taco Hombre donated a vegan/vegetarian soup.

Jean-Claude’s Patisserie & Desert Café provided cookies, as they have for each Empty Bowls event.

Warwick Valley Empty Bowls 2015 is most grateful to this year’s Platinum Sponsors, Cindy R. & Roger Vander Plaat, as well as generous community support. Donations are always gratefully accepted on the Warwick Valley Empty Bowls website.
