Orange County to host Patriot Day September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

GOSHEN — Orange County will host the September 11 Patriot Day ceremony at the Orange County Arboretum at Thomas Bull Memorial Park on Sunday, Sept. 11.
The procession will begin at 5:55 p.m. with the release of white doves followed promptly by the 6 p.m. ceremony.
The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, honors the memory of the 44 Orange County residents who lost their lives on 9/11.
It also pays tribute to the military personnel who serve our country. Families and survivors of September 11, families of local military personnel and veterans are invited to join the procession by assembling at the Arboretum’s Ottaway Education Center at 5:30 p.m.
Honor guards from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Stewart Air National Guard Base 105th Air Wing and Post #2064 Veterans of Foreign War, Maybrook will guide the procession along the Remembrance Walkway flanked by members of the Orange County Volunteer Fire Services. Orange County Sheriff Carl E. DuBois, District Attorney Dave Hoovler, County Clerk Annie Rabbitt and the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Orange County will also attend the ceremony. Several local fire companies, law enforcement, veterans groups, and emergency responders will also be involved in the ceremony.
Other highlights will include performances by guitarist Rich Pell and United States Military Academy Band vocalist Army Master Sergeant MaryKay Messenger.
Chaplain Lt. Col. John Torres, United States Air Force 105th Airlift Wing and Pastor Peter Rustico of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Middletown also will participate.
This year’s guest speaker will be Andrew Komonchak, executive director of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, Inc.
James W. Taylor, Jr., community supporter and memorial benefactor, and William J. Bratton Jr., representing the families of September 11, will read the names of those who perished on September 11 and the names of our local military that have made the ultimate sacrifice since then.
This will be followed by a gun salute by Post 2064 Veterans of Foreign War, Maybrook, and echoing taps by Whitney German and Jamie German under the directions of Eric Parks, SGM Ret. Amazing Grace will be performed by Michael A. Tully, AOH Pipe Major.
The Military Tribute monument is dedicated to past, present and future servants of our country.
