Go green in November for veterans

WARWICK — Change one light to green and help shine a light on America's veterans.

The national promotion was designed to encourage people to celebrate Veterans Day by changing one light to green in a visible location at your home or your office and keep it glowing every day as a symbol of appreciation and support for our veterans.

Jen DiCostanzo, an associate broker at the Green Team Real Estate office in the Village of Warwick, thought this was a good idea and suggested that this would be a good addition to the firm's policy of giving back to the community by contributing to local worthy causes.

Owner Geoff Green agreed and gave the green light to the program.

The Green Team Home Selling System would not only display green spot lights outside their office at 7 Main St. but they would distribute a couple of hundred or so light bulbs to any business or home owner who stopped by on a first come basis.

At first, finding hundreds of green light bulbs was a problem.

But then Scott and Tim Bieling, owners of Roe Brothers Lumber in the Village of Florida came to the rescue by ordering and then donating boxes of packaged green bulbs.

"It's important to honor our veterans," said Green, "but sometimes it's hard to show our appreciation when they are back home and out of uniform. This is one way to show them our support by changing one light to green."

Members of Warwick's American Legion Post 214 and VFW Post 4662 will conduct brief Veterans Day ceremonies next Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 11 a.m.
