The Florida Historical Society thanks O&R

The Florida Historical Society would like to give thanks to the Orange and Rockland Community Investment Program for its generous grant to benefit and preserve the history of the Village of Florida and surrounding area.
As written in numerous articles, the Florida Historical Society inherited a circa 1840 period house, contents and property from Historical Society Charter Member Ray Green.
This grant, along with numerous private donations, was used to replace the 70-year old furnace. Without a furnace during the winter months, we would not have been able to protect and preserve this historic house and contents.
The Historical Society is also grateful for the many grants over the years from the Warwick Savings Foundation that have helped us protect, preserve and present the unique history of the Village of Florida and surrounding area.
Last year, the O&R Community Investment Program gave us a grant to help with building a barn at the Green Family Homestead.
This O&R grant benefits the community that the Historical Society serves as we gather together the donations of local historical items dating back hundreds of years and present them in a historic house and site that will serve as a collections center for the community to visit.
The Green family, along with our early settlers, created this village and surrounding area to be the wonderful community we have today.
