NEWBURGH — Orange County Democratic Women will show the documentary, “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA,” on Monday July 18, at 7 p.m., in the Newburgh Free Library’s auditorium.
The event is free to the public.
The film was released in March by Brave New Films. “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and The NRA” tells the stories of how guns, and the billions of dollars made off of them, affect the lives of everyday Americans. It features personal stories from people across the country who were affected by gun violence, including survivors and victims' families.
According to its producers, the film exposes how the powerful gun companies and the NRA resist responsible legislation for the sake of profit - and thereby putting people in danger.
Through this film Orange County Democratic Women plans to draw attention to the need for citizens to demand a country where public safety is more valued than profit.
“Whether it is an unintentional shooting, domestic violence, suicide or mass shooting," Willa Freiband, OCDW board member, said in the press release announcing the screening, "Orange County Democratic Women wants to spark a debate about how to curb the violence and find ways to achieve common sense gun laws.”
