CPR training offered at Chilton Hospital

    Chilton Hospital’s CPR Training Center announces its August 2013 classes. All classes are held at 242 West Parkway, Pompton Plains. Chilton Hospital is accredited by the American Heart Association as a CPR Training Center.

    ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Provider Course

    Monday, Aug. 5, from 1 to 5 p.m., and Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (two-day class)

    The ACLS Provider Course is a two-day class designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. The intended audience is emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics and respiratory therapists and other professionals who may have a need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

    Thursday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    This class is for those interested in a renewal of ACLS certification. The intended audience is emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics and respiratory therapists and other professionals who may have a need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

    Basic First Aid
    Friday, Aug. 30, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

    The Basic First Aid course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The course consists of General Principles, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies. Basic First Aid meets OSHA requirements.

    BLS (Basic Life Support) for Health Care Providers

    Friday, Aug. 9, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

    Sunday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

    The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. This class is for licensed or non-licensed health care professionals. The intended audience is health care providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers and other allied health personnel.

    This class is for those who are interested in renewing their CPR certification.

    CPR for Friends and Family
    Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 7 to 10 p.m.

    Thursday, Aug. 22, from 7 to 10 p.m.

    This is an entry-level class that teaches how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and how to help a person who is choking. Attendees will learn to perform these techniques on adults, children and infants. The optional First Aid portion teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child for the first few minutes until professional help arrives. This course is of particular interest to new and expectant parents, relatives, babysitters and seniors. The CPR for Family & Friends program is conducted according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association. This is not a certification course, but you will receive a participation card.

    ECG (Electrocardiogram) & Pharmacology

    Monday, Aug. 5, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

    This comprehensive program is the perfect pre-course for new and renewing ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) and PALS (pediatric advanced life support) providers. This course covers basic electrophysiology, normal ECG measurement, basic arrhythmia, basic ACLS drugs, usage and routes of administration during cardiovascular emergencies and how to integrate basic drug pharmacology into ACLS algorithms.

    Heartsaver Adult/Child/Infant CPR With AED

    Friday, Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to noon

    Friday, Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (includes First Aid module)

    This course is for individuals who need to learn CPR and how to operate an AED (automated external defibrillator). The course offers instruction in adult CPR, use of the AED and choking. Optional Child CPR with AED modules are also offered. The intended audience is anyone who has a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This is a two-year certification.
