Warwick Friendly Visitor Program working to get neighbors vaccinated

| 03 May 2021 | 07:48

The Warwick Friendly Visitor Program has been working hard to get our neighbors vaccinated. This is not an easy task with almost 200 senior citizens currently enrolled in our program.

We are still providing other necessary services – routine medical appointments, grocery shopping, clerical work, even the occasional haircut - but vaccines have become part of the new routine.

We want to thank our partners at Office for the Aging and Jewish Family Services for their help in transporting some of our neighbors to various vaccine sites.

We also want to thank State Senator Mike Martucci and his staff for their help in arranging vaccines countywide.

When a neighbor called saying they had difficulty obtaining an appointment, we would send their contact information to Senator Martucci’s office and they were put on a list. And when a ride could not be filled by one of our regular volunteers - Jewish Family Services or Office for the aging provided the ride.

The month has been busy for our volunteers. The program received about 148 call and provided about 320 services.

If you or someone you know would like to become a volunteer, virtual training will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, May 11, at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 20, at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 27, at 10 a.m. Please call 845-341-1173 extension 305.

Or if you would like to receive services from the Warwick Friendly Visitor Program, call the program coordinator Lisa Bacenet at 845-986-1124 extension 400, leave your name, number and what services you need.
