Zackary Doyle captured third place in the U.S. Junior (18-and-Under) Disc Golf Championships held at the Smugglers Notch Resort in Vermont.

This was the first time Zack, 16, has competed in a major national event so, in the words of his father, Dan Doyle, "his performance was quite extraordinary and unexpected."

.Zack will be starting his senior year at Warwick Valley High School in September. One of his goals is to establish a Disc Sports club at the high school, featuring Disc Golf and Ultimate Frisbee as the two main Disc sports.

Warwick - a disc golf destination

Warwick is known throughout the Disc Golf world because of the design, beauty, challeng, and variety of the Disc Golf course in the Warwick Town Park on Union Corners Road that opened for play in 1999. The course was one of the first to feature both multiple tees and multiple targets on all 18 holes, therefore offering four distinctive layouts.

The more difficult tees have custom steel animals on the tee signs that were fabricated by the main sponsor of the course, Brakewell Steel Fabricators of Chester.

The hardest of the course's four layouts began to fondly be known as "the Animal course" because of those steel animals on the tee signs. Since then, the Skylands Flying Disc Club has held tournaments in October called "Animalfest" where participants play all four course layouts during this two-day event.

The Animalfest tournament has gotten so popular that once again this October, the Skylands club will be hosting the tournament over two weekends to allow more players to participate.

On Oct. 12 and 13, 72 professional players will compete.

On Oct. 19 and 20, 144 amateurs will be playing.

In order to accommodate 144 players, an additional course will be utilized. For the first time, The Oasis at Warwick, an 18-hole course located across the street from the Town of Warwick course, will be used. The Oasis is a 48-acre property owned by long-time Warwick resident Dan Doyle and is the site of the future Snufftown Farm Brewery.

The two October tournaments will be attracting 216 players from not only the local area but from throughout the Northeast United States. Spectators are encouraged to come witness the region's best players compete in the club's biggest events of the year.

Among the competitors is Warwick resident Steve Brinster, who has won 100 professional events, including the 2013 U.S. Disc Golf Championships.
