In the footsteps of Robert J. Uplinger

Warwick. The community service of Pamala Starer and Garrett Durland recognized.

Pamala Starer and Garrett Durland are the winners of the 2020 Warwick Lions Club’s Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award.

This award, named after the past international president, is presented to Lions or community members who have performed invaluable community service.

Pamala Starer

Pamala Starer joined the Warwick Lions Club in 2011. She quickly became involved in many projects, including the very successful Valentine’s Day Dance for seniors and other village activities during the Sesquicentennial.

Starer served as secretary and vice president before becoming the Warwick Lions Club president in 2017. During her term, she oversaw the growth of the club and worked on many fund-raising activities to fund many projects including the Christmas Party for Children in Need, the new playground at Deming Park, Warwick Valley High School scholarships and many other worthy causes.

Starer also was involved re-activating the Leos Club at the high school. She was a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer in her children’s schools.

“Pamala Starer can always be counted on to show up for every project and to put her artistic ability to work for the community,” said Douglas Stage.

Garrett Durland

Garrett Durland is a lifelong Warwick resident. As a third generation business owner, he became very involved in the Warwick Chamber of Commerce where he tirelessly volunteered his time as treasurer and president. He has been an integral force behind Warwick’s Applefest since its inception.

Durland is also an active board member of the St. Anthony Community Hospital Foundation Board where he has served many years including as treasurer.

He also was also a coach and a long term member of the Board of Directors of the Warwick Soccer Club.

Awards dinner

The awards dinner will be held on Oct. 18 at the Warwick Inn. The cost is $60, with limited seating.
