The Student Council of S.S. Seward Institute each year holds a community fund raiser. The student council members sell flags, such as pictured next to the monument marker, to be sponsored in the name of any veteran.

The flags line the drive from North Main Street to the school with each flag containing the information of the person being honored.

The funds collected from this sale are then donated to the American Legion Post 1250.

There was no presentation last year due to COVID-19 precautions. This year, though, student council member Joshua Medina presented the American Legion with a very generous donation of $4,000.

“Thank you, Katherine Hannon, student council advisor, and all the members of the council for your hard work,” the American Legion Post 1240 said in the press release detailing the donation, “and dedication to the memory of our service members.”
