Christine Ackerman named GWL schools chief

GREENWOOD LAKE — Dr. Christine Ackerman has been named the new Greenwood Lake School District superintendent by the board at its Jan. 15 meeting.

Ackerman began her career in education as a social studies teacher and dean of students at the High School for Law and Public Services in Washington Heights.

She was also dean of students for John Jay High School/Cross River and vice principal/director of student affairs for Valhalla Middle High School.

In March 2009, Ackerman became the principal at Millbrook High School and later was named the district’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and pupil personnel services in August 2010.

Ackerman also served as an adjunct Marist faculty member at its School of Social and Behavioral Sciences/ Graduate Education Division.

Ackerman holds a bachelor’s degree in teacher education and a second bachelor’s degree in psychology from Richard Stockton College in New Jersey.

She earned both her master’s degree in educational administration and her doctorate degree in educational leadership from Penn State University.

District officials said they anticipate Ackerman to join the district this July.
