Albert Wisner Public Library is ready to open its doors to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 4, to allow for the browsing of limited collections, copying, scanning, faxing, 3D printing as well as access to computers.

Twenty-minute visits will be by appointment on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.

Appointments can be made by calling 986-1047, ext. 3, beginning Saturday, Aug. 1 and can be made for up to a week in advance; one appointment per day allowed.

Visitors will be limited to an area on the main floor that has been set up to house specially curated collections for all ages to browse and check out, including DVDs, books on CD, video games and, of course, books. Staff will take requests for other items in the closed stacks area of the collection that can be borrowed as well.

All staff and visitors are required to properly wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be available and one restroom on the main floor will be open.

The library will remain locked, and visitors with appointments will call 986-1047, ext. 27, when they arrive. Walk-ins will be accommodated as space is available. A maximum of ten visitors of any age will be allowed each session, with eight in the general browsing and check out area and two in the computer area. The lower level of the library, including the children’s room, bookstore and all meeting rooms will remain closed. The book drop will remain open 24/7 for the return of all Library material

“We will continue our curbside pick-up for those who may still be uncomfortable coming into the building, but we have all missed seeing our friends and neighbors,” Library Director Rosemary Cooper said. “We have worked hard to insure the safety of staff and visitors as we phase in our reopening of the building.”

In order to provide a safe and welcoming environment for everyone during the COVID 19 Pandemic, the Library Board has adopted a temporary Safety Practices Policy. This policy is available at the Library.
